My little "doodle bop" umbrella
...ok, so last night, we had a progressive dinner with the young adult Sunday School class. A progressive dinner is one in which you travel to a different house for each course of the meal... i.e.. appetizers, soup, main, etc... During each of our stops, we played a "game". Some of the participants were asked to come up with a inanimate object to describe their spouse and give reasoning. Neither Tony or me were asked the question but on the ride to the next location, I asked Tony what his response would have been. So I've learned that I am a checkbook. A big fat boring checkbook! Tony's reasoning was that I am detailed, planned and organized... all very true but a CHECKBOOK!!! so romantic... he could have said so many things.. like a lilly or a delicate rose, or... endless opportunities... but I'm a checkbook!! He then asked how he would be described... it has been up until now that I have struggled to find the appropriate answer. ... and I think I have nailed it!... hence, the title of this blog.... Tony is a doodle bop umbrella. Now let me explain... an umbrella for a number of reasons.
An umbrella is a big object one would cling to, to provide and protect from the rain allowing a feeling of security, warmth and comfort, providing (in a sense) a shield from an uncomfortable situation, and is flexible and able to change shapes to fit in various locations. TONY! At least, TOny to me!
How do I explain.? Tony is all of these things to me. He is a provider in our home.. not just financially... but he provides me with security in knowing who he is in Christ and gives me comfort that he is leading our family in the way it should go. He is adaptable in any situation and gets along with all people.
hmm, and you ever have one of those umbrellas where the cloth starts coming off and one of the metal rods is exposed and you can't seem do anything with it... that would symbolize Tony's stubbornness ... had to throw it in there...
Umbrellas come in all colors, designs, characters.... like a spongebob square pants umbrella, or a spiderman umbrella... but my favorite is the Doodle Bop characters on the umbrella. ... Do you ever watch Playhouse Disney. Well, the Doodle Bops is a toddler show that Brayden loves! They come on about an hour before the Wiggles. Tony may watch it more than Brayden and sings along to every tune and stares without blinking when they come on. But even more than that, to me it symbolizes what a fabulous father Tony is. He is constantly playing with Brayden, rolling on the floor, fishing in the backyard, quacking like a duck, standing up toy animals, and roaring like a lion with Brayden. His playful spirit and enthousiasm with our son never ceases to amaze me. I could NOT have picked a better man to father my children. I know I've said it before, but I'm so blessed!
and I... am a checkbook! :) how funny, but very very true!
