We have not allowed our boys to drink sprite and/or chew gum. We just figured they couldn't miss what they hadn't yet had and they would have many years to come to get gum stuck in the carpet and drink fluid other than milk and water. :) The rule was and always has been they would be allowed both on their 5th birthday... And boy did Brayden think he was big stuff... I don't have pics of the bubble gum but we proudly went to the drugstore together and Brayden picked out Kung Fu Panda Bubble Gum tape. He's a natural.
